文化ショック II

日本に滞在していたときにきづいたことがもうひとつあります。
There is another thing I have noticed throughout my stay in Japan.

日本ではあちこち、特にコンビニで成人雑誌があります。
There are adults magazines everywhere in Japan, especially in convenient shops.

公共の場でも、恥じらいもなく、成人雑誌を読んでいます。
Apparently, it has became a norm and the adults are not slightly even embarrassed about reading it in the public, for instance, in the train.

日本に行ったとき、かぶき町にいきました。
When I was in Tokyo, I went to Kabuki-cho, which is one of the red light districts in Tokyo.

通行人を誘致するため、色々可愛い広告をあちこちで出ています。
They use a lot of promotional tools to attract the by-passers.

成人向きの映画館もあります。
They even have a few adult films cinema.

つまり、かぶき町ような場所を、日本ではもちろん、他の国でも見られるかもしれませんが、マレーシアではなかなか見られません。
All in all, maybe you can see this in other countries but not in Malaysia.

もう一つ面白い祭りを参加しました。
There is another interesting event I have participated.

それは豊年祭りでした。
It is the Penis Festival (Hounen Matsuri - in Japanese).

小牧にある田県神社では毎年３月１５日に行います。
It is being celebrated at Tagata Shrine in Komaki city on the 15th of March annually.

ナニの形か誰にも知ってると思います。
I believe everyone knows what it is.

長さは２ｍあまり、直径６０ｃｍぐらいだそうです。
It is around 2m long and its diameter is around 60cm.

それに触れると、「子どもを授かる」と言われています.
It is a fertility festival, that:s why, if you touch the wooden phalus, you will be granted a kid.

時々、それをその場で担ぎまわりました。私はなぜそのようにしたかわかりません。
Sometimes, those who carry the wooden phallus will spin it. However, I do not know the significance of the spinning.

それは、今まで、見たことの中で、一番大きな男性器間違いないです。
Undoubtfully, it is the biggest phallus I have seen untill now.

その日では、いっぱい男性器ような形の物が見られたり、いくら飲んでもお酒があったりして面白かったです。
On that day, a lot of phallus-shaped products are being sold and we had all-you-can-drink sake.

そして、私たちは木の男性器で色々面白いポーズを楽しんでいました。
and we had some fun with some small wodden phallus with my friends.

この後に近くで餅巻きがありました。
Then, around the shrine, they will be giving us rice cake (by throwing it to the crowd).

これが凄い大戦争でした。老人、女性には退去勧告がされます。
In order to catch the rice cake, there were pushing, fighting and it was like having a war. That:s why, olderly people and woman are not encouraged to participate in the event.

本当に激しかったです。私は５個ほどゲットしました。
It was brutal yet fun and exciting; and I got 5 in total.
